Trisha Fontan and her family
As BCLT continues to grow its affordable housing initiatives, we are thrilled to welcome Trisha Fontan to the team as Development & Community Engagement Manager. Trisha comes to this role with both professional expertise and a genuine passion for strengthening community. She will be helping deepen the partnerships and support that make permanently affordable housing possible in Bolinas.
Trisha grew up in Bolinas with her younger sister, surrounded by her father’s family. Her grandparents moved their four sons to Bolinas in the 1960’s and it immediately became their hometown. She brings 10 years of development experience to the BCLT, has multiple professional fundraising certificates, and a degree in Sustainable Community Development from Dominican University. Her philanthropic experience began by working for All Hands Ecology and she cares deeply about respecting our natural habitat.
Having been raised in West Marin she is passionate about ensuring there is access to long term affordable housing in our local communities. She enjoys spending time with her extended family in Bolinas, reading books, and is grateful to be raising her daughter with her husband in Bolinas.
What drew you to work for the BCLT and to this job in particular?
Nearly 20 years ago I wrote my college thesis on sustainable community development. Having grown up in West Marin I know how important it is for our communities to have housing available for full time residents and families, to ensure that we are a true home town and not a tourist destination. The BCLT’s goal of preserving vibrant communities is something I am deeply passionate about.
Can you share a bit about your history with Bolionas and Stinson Beach?
My dad moved to Bolinas in high school with his parents and three brothers to open Scowley’s restaurant in downtown Bolinas in the 1960’s. I was lucky enough to be raised here, and am even more lucky that I have the opportunity to raise my daughter here. My husband grew up here, my sister and her kids live here, my cousins live here, Bolinas is our hometown and I am so proud of that. I began my non-profit career at All Hands Ecology, and I think that my belief that preserving our environment and preserving our community are two sides of the same coin, came from growing up in West Marin. My childhood was filled with Fourth of July Parades, Harvest Festival celebrations, BPUD preschool spaghetti dinners, and checking out minus tides and butterfly migrations. It was a perfect balance of respecting the natural beauty of where we lived, while also celebrating with our neighbors.
What prior experiences do you think will be most valuable to you in this position?
The BCLT has done so much work in the last few years that has led to rapid growth in the number of families they serve, and in the opportunities they are providing for our community for new housing. I think being a part of this community helps me to understand how impactful that has all been and will continue to be moving forward. I also know that change is always hard, even if it’s what a community needs, and I know that people need to feel seen and heard, because we are neighbors and in this together.
What are you looking forward to in 2026?
I am so excited to be joining the BCLT. It’s not often that you get to work for an organization that is striving to make the place you call home more inclusive and welcoming, it’s a gift that I don't take for granted. I can’t wait to watch an affordable housing project be built from the ground up, and I look forward to working with the staff at the BCLT and the community that supports us. I have also never had an opportunity to walk to work before and I think that is going to be awesome.

Trisha creció en Bolinas con su hermana menor, rodeada de la familia de su padre. Sus abuelos se mudaron con sus cuatro hijos a Bolinas en la década de 1960 y Bolinas se convirtió inmediatamente en su ciudad natal. Aporta al BCLT 10 años de experiencia en desarrollo, cuenta con múltiples certificados profesionales en recaudación de fondos y un título en Desarrollo Comunitario Sostenible de la Universidad Dominicana. Su experiencia filantrópica comenzó trabajando para All Hands Ecology y le preocupa profundamente el respeto por nuestro hábitat natural.
Criada en West Marin, le apasiona garantizar el acceso a vivienda asequible a largo plazo en nuestras comunidades locales. Disfruta de pasar tiempo con su familia extendida en Bolinas, leer libros y está agradecida de criar a su hija con su esposo en Bolinas.
¿Qué la atrajo a trabajar para el BCLT y a este puesto en particular?
Hace casi 20 años escribí mi tesis universitaria sobre desarrollo comunitario sostenible. Habiendo crecido en West Marin, sé lo importante que es para nuestras comunidades tener viviendas disponibles para los residentes y sus familias, para asegurar que seamos un verdadero hogar y no un destino turístico. El objetivo del BCLT de preservar comunidades vibrantes es algo que me apasiona profundamente.
¿Puede contarnos un poco sobre su historia con Bolionas y Stinson Beach?
Mi padre se mudó a Bolinas durante la secundaria con sus padres y tres hermanos para abrir el restaurante Scowley's en el centro de Bolinas en la década de 1960. Tuve la suerte de crecer aquí, y aún más de tener la oportunidad de criar a mi hija aquí. Mi esposo creció aquí, mi hermana y sus hijos viven aquí, mis primos viven aquí; Bolinas es nuestra ciudad natal y estoy muy orgullosa de ello. Comencé mi carrera en una organización sin fines de lucro en All Hands Ecology, y creo que mi convicción de que preservar nuestro medio ambiente y nuestra comunidad son dos caras de la misma moneda surgió de mi infancia en West Marin. Mi infancia estuvo llena de desfiles del 4 de Julio, celebraciones del Festival de la Cosecha, cenas de espaguetis en preescolares de BPUD y observar las mareas bajas y las migraciones de mariposas. Fue un equilibrio perfecto entre respetar la belleza natural del lugar donde vivíamos y celebrar con nuestros vecinos.
¿Qué experiencias previas cree que serán más valiosas para usted en este puesto?
El BCLT ha realizado un gran trabajo en los últimos años que ha llevado a un rápido crecimiento en el número de familias a las que atiende y en las oportunidades que ofrece a nuestra comunidad para nuevas viviendas. Creo que formar parte de esta comunidad me ayuda a comprender el impacto que todo esto ha tenido y seguirá teniendo en el futuro. También sé que el cambio siempre es difícil, incluso si es lo que una comunidad necesita, y sé que las personas necesitan sentirse vistas y escuchadas, porque somos vecinos y estamos juntos en esto.
¿Qué esperas para 2026?
Estoy muy emocionada de unirme al BCLT. No es frecuente trabajar para una organización que se esfuerza por hacer que el lugar que llamas hogar sea más inclusivo y acogedor; es un regalo que no doy por sentado. Estoy deseando ver cómo se construye un proyecto de vivienda asequible desde cero y espero trabajar con el personal del BCLT y la comunidad que nos apoya. Además, nunca antes había tenido la oportunidad de ir caminando al trabajo y creo que será fantástico.
